‍Upbeat PD (“we” or “us”) promises to respect any personal data you share with us, or that we get from other organisations and keep it safe. We aim to be clear when we collect your data and use your data in a way that you would expect.

Developing a better understanding of our supporters through their personal data allows us to make better research decisions, fundraise more efficiently and ultimately, help us to reach our goal of finding new treatments, prevention and a cure for Parkinson’s.

We only send marketing communications to those who have already given consent or where we have a legitimate interest and we communicate via their preferred channel(s) (email or post). Our marketing communications include information about our latest research and fundraising activities.

1.       How we collect information

  1. When you engage or give to us directly.
    You may give us your information to sign up for one of our events, tell us your story, donate, fundraise for us (directly), sign up on our website, communicate or meet with us or to use our Grant Policy. We are responsible for your data at all times

  2. When you give to us indirectly.
    Your information may be shared with us by independent event organisers, for example fundraising sites like JustGiving. These independent third parties will only do so when you have indicated that you wish to support Upbeat PD and with your consent. You should check those third-party Privacy Policies when you provide your information to understand fully how they will process your data.

  3. When you give permission to other organisations to share or it is available publicly.We may combine information you provide to us with information available from external sources to gain a better understanding of our supporters to improve our fundraising methods.

The information we get from other organisations may depend on your privacy settings or the responses you give, so you should regularly check them. This information comes from third party organisations, social media and any information available publicly.

2.       Cookies

Like most websites, we use “cookies” to help us make our site, and the way you use it, better. Cookies mean that a website will remember you. They are small text files that sites transfer to your computer (or phone or tablet). They make interacting with a website faster and easier – for example by automatically filling your name and address in text fields.

We ensure that your information is only accessible to the trustees of Upbeat PD.

We may need to disclose your details if required to the police, regulatory bodies or legal advisors.

We will only ever share your data in other circumstances if we have your explicit and informed consent.

The retention period will be determined by various criteria including the purpose for which we are using it, we will need to keep the data for as long as is necessary for that purpose and legal obligations, laws or regulation may set a minimum period for which we have to keep your personal data.

Where your information is no longer required, we will ensure it is disposed of in a secure manner.

4.       Your rights in relation to the personal data that we hold about you

The right to obtain information regarding the processing of your personal data, access to the personal data which we hold about you and the right to withdraw your consent to our processing of your personal data at any time. Please note, however, that we may still be entitled to process your personal data if we have another legitimate reason (other than consent) for doing so.

Again, there may be circumstances where you object to, or ask us to restrict, our processing of your personal data but we are legally entitled to continue processing your personal data and / or to refuse that request.
